The project begins with a reflection on the book as an object. The book is, in my opinion, a strange object. The moment we read it, it becomes ours, yet we find it hard to physically part with it; it is a precious object, the keeper of stories of all kinds; during the lockdown in the year of the world pandemic, books were one of the ways to continue to travel and meet people.
For the realization of the “segment no. 1” project, I asked all the people I could reach to donate one of the books they had read during their lifetime.
All the collected books were installed in the gallery, creating a physical relationship with the space, and portraying a collective portrait of all the people who participated in the project.
At the end of the exhibition, all the books will be donated to various social institutions in Albania, orphanages etc..
During the project implementation process, the books changed their function 3 times; from their original function of being a book, they became a work of art and finally returned to their function of being books, enriched by the new social context.
